A liquid crystal display device is provided and includes: a liquid crystal cell including a pair of transparent glass substrates each having a transparent electrode, and a nematic liquid crystal between the pair of the transparent glass substrates; and a pair of polarizing plates sandwiching the liquid crystal cell. At least one of the pair of polarizing plates includes a protective film; a polarizer; and an optical compensation film.
