abstract An extra-oral digital panoramic dental x-ray imaging system for multi-layer panoramic and transverse X-ray imaging provided with an X-ray source and a digital imaging device providing real time frame mode output and autofocusing. The X-ray source and imaging device are mounted in a mechanical manipulator defining the trajectory of a predetermined image layer. The imaging device communicates with a processor that generates a frames memory from which an image reconstruction mechanism composes the final images.
