abstract The disclosure relates to a method for dyeing keratinous fibers by applying, to said fibers, i) at least one entity chosen from ortho-diphenol and derivatives thereof, ii) at least one metal salt, iii) hydrogen peroxide or at least one system which generates hydrogen peroxide, and iv) at least one (bi)carbonate, wherein the method for coloring keratinous fibers is carried out in at least two stages, and wherein the at least one (bi)carbonate and the at least one metal salt are applied in separate stages. The disclosure also relates to a ready-to-use cosmetic composition and relates to a multicompartment device comprising from 2 to 5 compartments comprising from 2 to 5 compositions.
