abstract The present invention deals with metal oxide coated, flake shaped soft iron pigments. The characteristic feature is a reflector substrate, which is produced by deformation of reduced carbonyl iron powder. The pigments are colorful, display metallic luster and a high magnetic permeability. They can be oriented in the medium by means of an external magnetic field. The novel pigments find use in the decorative and/or functional field, particularly in lacquers, paints, plastics, in printing, in glass, ceramics and in cosmetics.
