abstract A method is provided for achieving high-speed 2N-2N DCT and 2-2N-1-2N DCT in a miniaturized circuit.An 8-8 DCT is performed by using multiplexers, registers, adding circuits, subtracting circuits, adding/subtracting circuits, fixed coefficient multiplying circuits, AND circuits or a like. A 2-4-8 DCT is performed by using a part of the circuit for performing the 8-8 DCT by switching operations of multiplexers, adding/subtracting circuits, fixed coefficient multiplying circuits, registers between operations for the 8-8 DCT and for the 2-4-8 DCT.
