A particulate selective hydrogenation catalyst for hydrogenating unsaturated diolefinic hydrocarbons to alpha-olefinic hydrocarbons at rates which are at least 1.5 times higher than the rate of hydrogenation of alpha-olefinic hydrocarbons to saturated compounds contains palladium distributed at the periphery of particles (spherules or extrudates), and at least one element selected from tin and lead. Further, the tin and/or lead is advantageously distributed at the periphery of the spherules or extrudates. |
