abstract Disclosed are methods and compositions for inhibiting corrosion in the overhead of a crude unit distillation tower by washing the crude oil with water containing a hydrophilic, polymeric, nitrogenous base, a di- or multivalent metallic base, or a combination of a multi-polyether-headed surfactant and a monovalent metallic base. In another embodiment, a hydrophobic, nitrogenous base is added directly to the crude oil then washed with water.
