abstract | A silver halide photographic material which contains at least one methine compound represented by the following formula (I) or (II): wherein Z1, Z2 and Z3 each represents an atomic group necessary to form a 5- or 6-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring; R1 and R3 each represents an alkyl group; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group or a heterocyclic group; L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L6, L7, L8 and L9 each represents a methine group; p1 and p2 each represents 0 or 1; n1 and n2 each represents 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4; M1 represents a counter ion to balance a charge; and m1 represents a number of 0 or more necessary for to neutralize a charge in the molecule; provided that at least one of R1, R2, R3, Z1, Z2, Z3, L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L6, L7, L8 and L9 has a thioether group; wherein Z4, Z5 and Z6 each represents an atomic group necessary to form a 5- or 6-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring; R4 represents an alkyl group; R5 and R6 each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group or a heterocyclic group; L10, L11, L12, L13, L14 and L15 each represents a methine group; p3 represents 0 or 1; n3 and n4 each represents 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4; M2 represents a counter ion to balance a charge; and m2 represents a number of 0 or more necessary for to neutralize a charge in the molecule; provided that at least one of R4, R5, R6, Z4, Z5, Z6, L10, L11, L12, L13, L14 and L15 has a thioether group. |
