An allyloxymethylatedpolyamide composition is disclosed, the allyloxymethylatedpolyamide being represented by Formulae I and II: ##STR1## wherein: n is a positive integer sufficient to achieve a weight average molecular weight between about 5000 and about 100,000, n R is an alkylene unit containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, n between 1 and 99 percent of the R 2 sites are --H, and n between 1 and 99 percent of the R 2 sites are --H, and the remainder of the R 2 sites is between 25 percent and 99 percent --CH 2 --O--(CH 2 ) w --CH═CH 2 , wherein n w is 1, 2 or 3, n between 1 and 75 percent of the R 2 sites are --CH 2 --O--R 5 , and n R 5 is an alkyl unit containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and ##STR2## wherein: m is a positive integer sufficient to achieve a weight average molecular weight between about 5000 and about 100,000, n R 1 and R are independently selected from the group consisting of alkylene units containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, n between 1 and 99 percent of the R 3 and R 4 sites are --H, and between 25 percent and 99 percent of the remainder of the R 3 and R 4 sites are --CH 2 --O--(CH 2 ) w --CH═CH 2 , n wherein n w is 1, 2 or 3, and n between 1 percent and 75 percent of the R 2 sites are --CH 2 --O--R 5 n wherein R 5 is an alkyl unit containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms. n The allyloxymethylatedpolyamide may be synthesized by reacting an alcohol soluble polyamide with formaldehyde and an allylalcohol. n The allyloxymethylatedpolyamide may be cross linked by a process selected from the group consisting of n (a) heating an allyloxymethylatedpolyamide in the presence of a free radical catalyst, and n (b) hydrosilation of the double bond of the allyloxy group of the allyloxymethylatedpolyamide with a silicon hydride reactant having at least 2 reactive sites. n A preferred article includes n a substrate, n at least one photoconductive layer, and n an overcoat layer comprising n a hole transporting hydroxy arylamine compound having at least two hydroxy functional groups, and n a cross linked allyloxymethylatedpolyamide film forming binder. n A stabilizer may be added to the overcoat. |
