abstract Aqueous solutions of N-methylol compounds of carboxamides, urethanes, ureas and aminotriazines or of N-methylol ethers of these compounds that are suitable for finishing cellulose-containing textile materials are prepared by reaction of compounds having one or more N-H groups in aqueous solution with formaldehyde and, in the case of N-methylol ethers, with an alcohol by adding boron trifluoride, a boron trifluoride addition compound or tetrafluoroboric acid or a salt thereof to the aqueous solutions during or immediately after the reaction.
