abstract A manually operated pump dispensing device is provided for dispensing a liquid product. The manually operated pump dispensing device includes a container for storing the liquid product, a dispensing pump and a gas-permeable/liquid-impermeable vent. The container has an interior chamber and an exterior that is exposed to the environment. The dispensing pump is attached to the container in fluid communication with the liquid product. The dispensing pump has a discharge orifice and an actuator. The gas-permeable/liquid-impermeable vent comprises a venting module that includes a membrane and a support frame. The membrane is gas-permeable/liquid-impermeable and is affixed onto the support frame such that the membrane surrounds the support frame. The vent allows for communication between the interior chamber and the environment, thereby passively venting the container.
