abstract A thermotropic side-chain liquid crystal polymer and a ferroelectric liquid crystal display employing the same as an orientation layer are provided. The thermotropic side-chain liquid crystal can be advantageously synthesized and is soluble in general organic solvents, thus exhibiting good processability. Further, the ferroelectric liquid crystal display employing the thermotropic side-chain liquid crystal polymer has a uniform orientation layer rarely having defects and good contrast ratio and memory characteristics.
