Substituted aromatic polyalkyl ethers having the formula: <IMAGE> wherein R1 is a polyalkyl group having an average molecular weight of about 450 to about 5,000; A is nitro, amino, cyano, aminomethyl, N-alkylamino or N-alkylaminomethyl wherein the alkyl group contains from about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, or N,N-dialkylamino or N,N-dialkylaminomethyl wherein each alkyl group independently contains from about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms x is an integer from about 0 to about 1; and y is an integer from about 0 to about 10 with the proviso that one of x and y must be 0 and the other must be greater than 0. The substituted aromatic polyalkyl ethers of the present invention are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits. |
