abstract The invention relates to a method for the dehalogenation of organohalogen compounds commonly found as pollutants in soil and ground water. The instant method utilizes anaerobic bacteria comprising an extracellular electron transfer protein coupled with a tetrapyrrole catalyst to effect the reductive dehalogenation of halogenated organics. Optionally, an electron transport mediator may be used to enhance the rate of dehalogenation.
