abstract This invention relates to a paint composition comprising a clay-containing pigment system, a latex binder, a polysaccharide thickener, and 0.005% to 2%, based upon the weight of the pigment, of a blocking agent which serves to prevent more than 20% of the polysaccharide thickener from being adsorbed onto the clay pigment surface, whereby the paint composition exhibits improved appearance and application performance.
