abstract |
The present invention is directed to an apparatus for removing oxygen from a fluid stream. The apparatus is comprised of a flow through reactor chamber containing a sufficient amount of oxygen scavenging cell membrane fragments to catalyze the transformation of oxygen present in a fluid stream to water. The fragments are contained in the apparatus in a manner which allows free contact between the fragments and the fluid stream flowing therethrough or for the diffusion of the oxygen from the fluid stream across a synthetic membrane to a compartment containing the fragments where the oxygen is transformed to water. An inlet for introducing a fluid stream containing oxygen into said flow-through reaction chamber and an outlet for removing the deoxygenated fluid stream are also provided. |
