abstract Disclosed is an ink jet recording sheet comprising a support and an ink receiving layer provided on at least one side of the support wherein said ink receiving layer contains a cation-modified non-spherical colloidal silica. The cation-modifier used is preferably hydrous aluminum oxide, hydrous zirconium oxide or hydrous tin oxide. The ink jet recording sheet is high in gloss, quick in drying of ink and superior in water resistance of ink jet recorded images and film formability of the ink receiving layer.
