abstract This invention provides a method of inhibiting aromatase and treating of estrogen-dependent diseases in a patient by administering azole derivatives as nonsteroidal inhibitors. The azole derivative has the formula (* CHEMICAL STRUCTURE *) where R1 a is hydrogen or a (C1-C5) alkyl; R2 is a hydrogen or a (C1-C5) alkyl; R3 is any of a halogen, a (C1-C5)alkyl, a haloalkyl, a phenyl, a cyano, or nitro; n is 0 to 5; and Y is a nitrogen atom or CH.
