abstract | Liquid crystal compositions comprising: at least one of the compounds of the general formula (I) and at least one of the compounds of the general formula (II); and optionally including at least one of the compounds of the general formula (III), or, when compound (III) is present, optionally including at least one of the compounds of the general formula (IV) are provided. General Formula (I): <IMAGE> (I) General Formula (II): <IMAGE> (II) General Formula (III): <IMAGE> (III) General Formula (IV): <IMAGE> (IV) All the symbols are as defined in the appended claims, namely, R1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms; R2 is an alkyl group having 2 to 8 carbon atoms; R3 is an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms; R4 is an alkyl group having 2 to 8 carbon atoms; R5 is H or F; R6 is an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an alkoxyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, F, or a CN group; and R7 is an alkyl group having 2 to 10 carbon atoms or an alkenyl group having 2 to 10 carbon atoms.
