titleOfInvention Scratch-resistant coating and method of making coated lenses
abstract Plastic ophthalmic lenses are coated with a spin-coating process. A coating solution containing at least ninety percent tri- and tetra-acrylates in a butanol solvent is spin-coated onto the surface of a plastic lens. After drying, the coating is exposed to ultraviolet radiation to cure the coating. A photoinitiator is used which counteracts the tendency of oxygen to inhibit curing of the coating at its exterior surface.
