A silver halide photographic material low in fogging generation and high in sensitivity comprising a silver halide emulsion selenium sensitized with at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by general formulae (I) and (III): ##STR1## wherein each of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 represents an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group, an aralkyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, an acyl group, a carboxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group or a sulfamoyl group, provided that a tetramethylselenourea is excluded; ##STR2## wherein each of R 8 , R 9 , R 10 and R 11 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group, an aralkyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, an acyl group, a carboxyl group, a formyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group or a sulfamoyl group, provided that at least one pair of R 8 and R 9 , R 9 and R 10 , R 10 and R 11 , and R 11 and R 8 combine to form a ring. |
