abstract A copolymer of (a) a polyoxyalkylene alkenyl ether represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein Z is a residue of a compound having from 2 to 8 hydroxyl groups; AO is an oxyalkylene group having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms; R is an alkenyl group having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms; R 1 is a hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 40 carbon atoms; a≧0; b≦0; c≦0; l≦1; m≦0; z≦0; l+m+n=2 to 8; al+bm+cn=1 to 100; and n/(l+m+n)≦1/3, and (b) a maleic ester of a compound represented by formula (II): n n R.sup.2 O(A.sup.1 O).sub.d H (II) n n wherein R 2 is a hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 40 carbon atoms; A 1 O is an oxyalkylene group having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms; and d is from 0 to 100; or formula (III): ##STR2## wherein Z 1 is a residue of a compound containing from 2 to 8 hydroxyl groups; A 2 O is an oxyalkylene group having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms; R 3 is a hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 40 carbon atoms; e<0; f<0; p<0; q≦1; p+q=2 to 8; and ep+fq=0 to 100. The copolymer is useful as an emulsifier, a dispersant, or an additive for cement.
