titleOfInvention Process for increasing the yield of purified isophthalic acid and reducing waste-water treatment a
abstract The invention is an improved method of purification of isophthalic acid comprising recycling a portion of the mother liquor solution into the feed solution of an isophthalic acid purification process. The improved method comprises the following steps: (a) dissolving crude isophthalic acid in a feed solution comprising a polar solvent at a temperature of from about 100 DEG C. to about 300 DEG C.; (b) crystallizing the isophthalic acid by cooling the solution of step (a) to a temperature of from about 35 DEG C. to about 120 DEG C.; (c) separating the isophthalic acid crystals from the solution and drying the crystals; and (d) recycling a portion of the solution remaining after the separation of isophthalic acid crystals back to the feed solution.
