titleOfInvention Carbamate additives for lubricating compositions
abstract Compounds which improve extreme pressure and anti-wear properties of lubricating compositions are described. The compounds include the compounds of the following formula as well as statistical mixtures of those compounds: ##STR1## wherein R 1 is hydrogen or hydrocarbyl; R 2 is hydrocarbyl having at least 4 carbon atoms or together with R 1 forms a heterocyclic radical, n wherein R 3 , R 4 , R 7 and R 8 are each independently hydrogen or alkyl; n wherein a is 0 or 1; n wherein n is 1, 2 or 3; n wherein X is oxygen or sulfur; n wherein R 5 is hydrogen or hydrocarbyl; and n when n is 1, R 6 is selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## and when n is 2, R 6 is selected from the group consisting of ##STR3## and when n is 3, R 6 is ##STR4## wherein R is independently an alkyl moiety, alkylene or alkylidene moiety containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms, R' is hydrogen or alkyl moiety, alkylene, alkylidene or carboxyl containing 1 to 60 carbon atoms, and R" is aryl or substituted aryl.
