abstract A dry analysis element for determination of a particular constituent in erythrocyte-containing blood, which comprises at least a water permeable porous spreading layer and a water permeable reagent layer arranged on the side opposite to the liquid accepting face of the porous spreading layer, and which contains a reagent composition capable of producing an optically detectable substance in the presence of an analyte in at least either of the water permeable layers. The porous spreading layer contains cholic acid, deoxycholic acid or salts thereof to enable accurate determination of the constituents in whole blood, irrespective of the hematocrit value.
