A polysaccharide graft polymer having the structure Sacch-O-(-G-)m-(M)n-1-M (I) in which Sacch- is a polysaccharide; m = 0 or 1; G is the residue of a polymerisable unsatd. monomer which is bonded to the polysaccharide by an ether or ester linkage; n is greater than 1; and M is the residue of one or more polymerisable, unsaturated monomers at least one of which is a siloxane-contg. monomer, which have been grafted to the polysaccharide or the Sacch-O-G polysaccharide deriv. by free radical polymerisation. Pref. in (I) G is derived from allyl glycidyl ether; and M has the structure in which Z = the residue of a polymerisable, unsaturated organic gp. which is bonded to the Si by a C-Si linkage; R1 = straight or branched 1-6C alkyl or alkenyl gp. or an aryl, aralkyl or alkaryl gp.; and R2 and R3 (same or different) straight or branched 1-6C alkyl or alkenyl or aryl, aralkyl or alkaryl gps. or alkoxides of straight or branched 1-6C alkyl or alkenyl gps. or aryl, aralkyl or alkaryl gps., or alkoxides in which R2 and R3 together for a cyclic structure of at least five members. |
