abstract Fluoroalkyl surface active agents are provided as effective coating aids for hydrophilic colloid coating compositions for photographic materials. These coating aids are of the formula: ##STR1## where M is a cation, n x and y are each independently 0 or an integer of from 1 to 6 such that the sum of x and y is an integer of from 2 to 6, and n p and q are each independently 1 or 2, with the proviso that when the sum of x and y is 6, p and q are each 1, and when the sum of x and y is 2, p and q are each 2.
