abstract |
Novel polyahls having backbones containing urea, urethane and polyamine moieties and hydroxyl and/or amine terminal groups are prepared by contacting a polyamine such as an aminated polyether polyol or hexamethylene diamine with a cyclic alkylene carbonate such as propylene carbonate under conditions sufficient to form the polyahl and a monoalkylene glycol. The monoalkylene glycol is removed from the reaction mixture in order to drive the reaction to completion. Such polyahls are useful in the preparation of isocyanate-functional prepolymers and polyurea/polyurethanes. The latter are suitably employed as flexible and rigid foams, coatings, RIM elastomers and other applications where conventional polyurethanes are employed. |
