abstract A scandia stabilized zirconia coating which is resistant to corrosion by sulfur and vanadium compounds at elevated temperatures. Scandia is present in the zirconia between about 4 to 8 mole percent. A composite formed from a coating of the stabilized zirconia on a substrate, such as a superalloy, is useful for turbine blades and engine pistons. Preferably, the coating is up to 10 mils thick.
