abstract | A method is provided for preparing unsaturated fatty acids having triple bonds by reducing the double bonds of unsaturated fatty acids. The unsaturated, double-bonded fatty acid is reacted with a halogen gas to form a halogenated fatty acid, and this brominated fattay acid is mixed with a strong base and 1,3-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide to form a salt of a triple bonded fatty acid. This salt is then reacted with an acid to form the desired triple bonded fatty acid. |
