abstract A pyroelectric infrared detector or infrared ray receiving element comprising a plurality of pyroelectric operating areas, utilizing one of the operating areas as an infrared radiation detection area having a light-transmissive surface electrode. The electrical signal produced in the signal detection area is compensated by an electrical signal produced in another pyroelectric operating area having a light-reflective surface electrode. Temperature drift and noise due to vibration are drastically reduced through the compensation.
