abstract 3-(Hydroxyphenylphosphinyl)-propanoic acid is produced by reacting phenylphosphonous dichloride with a 0 to 20 percent molar excess of acrylic acid at a temperature of 60° to 150° C., heating the reaction mixture at a temperature of 115° to 150° for at least 45 minutes, and then hydrolyzing the mixture to obtain the desired product.
