abstract A sterile mattress unit that contains a mattress, an air tight cover of micro filter material enclosing the mattress and a gas reservoir that supplies gas to the interior of the cover is disclosed. The reservoir is a flexible structure that expands and contracts as weight is placed upon or taken from the surface of the mattress. A medicated agent is preferably included in the gas and gas reservoir to provide protection against microorganisms.
