abstract Dyestuffs of the formula <IMAGE> I in which Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4 designate hydrogen, halogen, nitro, amino, alkylamino, arylamino, cycloalkylamino, aralkylamino, alkylthio, arylthio, cycloalkylthio, aralkylthio or hydroxyl, it being possible for the hydrocarbon radicals to be sustituted, with the proviso that (a) at least one of the substituents Y1, Y2, Y3 or Y4 does not denote hydrogen, (b) a maximum of two of the substituents Y1, Y2, Y3 and Y4 designate halogen and either (c1) X1, X3 represent halogen, -R1, -OR1 or -SR1, R1 denoting optionally substituted alkyl, it being possible for the alkyl chain to be substituted by an oxygen atom or several non-adjacent oxygen atoms, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl, optionally substituted aralkyl or an optionally substituted heterocyclic radical and X2 designating hydrogen, or (c2) X1, X2 denote halogen, <IMAGE> <IMAGE> or <IMAGE> m' designating 0, 1, 2, or 3, m designating 0, 2 or 3, R2 designating halogen, -CF3, -CN, -OR1, -SR1, -R1, <IMAGE> <IMAGE> <IMAGE> R3 designating hydrogen or R2 and R4 designating hydrogen, alkyl, halogen, alkoxy or -CO2R1 and X3 representing hydrogen, or (c3) X1 designates halogen, X2 designates -OR1 or -SR1 and X3 designates hydrogen, their preparation and use and dichroic material containing these anthraquinone dyestuffs.
