abstract Polyene compounds represented by the formula ##STR1## where R is H or lower alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms; n R 1 is H, lower alkyl of from 1 to 8 carbon atoms or aralkyl; and n R 2 is (CH 2 ) n CH 2 OH, CHO or CO 2 R; wherein n is 1 or 2. n The foregoing compounds have been found active in regulating the formation of lipoxygenase and as such possess therapeutic value in the treatment of inflammatory conditions and allergic responses.
