abstract | Organogermanium compounds having both hydrophilicity and lipophilicity are respresented by the formula <IMAGE> (I) in which R1 and R2 are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, and A is a hydroxyl or amino group, a salt thereof, or an O-lower alkyl group. The compounds are produced by a process which comprises obtaining a trihalogermylcinnamic acid derivative of the formula <IMAGE> (IV) in which R1 and R2 are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, and B is a cyano, carboxyl, haloformyl, or carbamoyl group, or a group esterified with a lower alkyl group, directly or indirectly from a cinnamic acid derivative of the formula <IMAGE> (II) in which R1, R2, and B are as defined above, and a trihalogermane X3GeH (III) and then hydrolyzing the derivative (IV). |
