The subject invention relates to adducts of vicinal toluenediamine prepared by: (a) reacting from one to three moles of ethylene oxide with vicinal toluenediamine at a temperature of 125 DEG C., and (b) reacting the product of (a) with four to eight moles of propylene oxide at a temperature of at least 140 DEG C. in the present of at least 1.0 part of an alkali metal hydroxide catalyst. The adducts generally have a hydroxyl number of 300 to 500 and are particularly useful for the preparation of rigid polyurethane foams. |
