titleOfInvention Polyester resins capable of forming containers having improved gas barrier properties
abstract The present invention provides polyester resins useful for forming containers having improved resistance to gas permeability. The containers are formed from a polyester resin which comprises the reaction product of a diol containing up to about 8 carbon atoms and a diacid component which comprises about 5 to 95 mole percent of oxydiacetic acid, and about 5 to about 95 mole percent of naphthalene dicarboxylic acid. The polyester resin has an inherent viscosity of about 0.5 to 1.5. The containers which are provided by the present invention may be in the form of sheet, film, molded articles, such as bottles, and other such structures.
