abstract A traction drive fluid is described, containing as the base stock a compound represented by the general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein all the symbols are as defined in the appended claims. This traction drive fluid has a high traction coefficient, has a good thermal stability, is of low viscosity, is of low volatility and further is reduced in temperature dependency of viscosity. Thus it is suitable for use in continuously variable transmission of cars or industrial machines.
