abstract Water-soluble triazine compounds which, in their betaine form correspond to the formula <IMAGE> (I) wherein R1 denotes hydrogen or alkyl, R2 and R3 independently of one another denote hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl, X denotes halogen, hydroxyl, alkoxy, alkyl, aryl or an optionally monosubstituted or disubstituted amino group, the substituents of which can be involved-optionally via a hetero-atom-in cyclization, and Y denotes hydrogen or the radical of an azo dyestuff, and wherein the cyclic and acyclic radicals can carry further substituents, are used-when Y represents the radical of an azo dyestuff-for dyeing synthetic and natural materials, in particular paper, and-when Y represents hydrogen-for the preparation of azo dyestuffs.
