An adhesive which comprises (a) 1 part by weight of a compound represented by the formula <IMAGE> (where R1 and R1' denote H or a methyl group, X1, X1', X2, and X2' denote O, S, or NR alpha [where R alpha is H or a C1-6 alkyl group], m is an integer of 1 to 4, n is an integer of 0 to 4, k and k' are 0 or 1, Ra is a C8-40 organic residue having a valence of (m+1), and Ra' is a C1-40 organic residue having a valence of (n+1)), and (b) 0 to 199 parts by weight of a monomer which is copolymerizable with said compound (a). This adhesive firmly adheres to hard tissues of the living body such as teeth and bones, metallic materials, organic polymeric materials, and ceramics. It keeps the high adhesive strength for a long period of time under wet conditions. This adhesive is particularly useful in dentistry. |
