abstract An epoxy resin composition is provided which contains carbon dioxide as a cure retardant. The composition comprises an epoxy resin, a curing agent for the epoxy resin, a hydrocarbon diluent and carbon dioxide. It can optionally contain an alcohol. The presence of the carbon dioxide enables preparation of an epoxy resin and curing agent solution which can be stored and transported to the site of application without curing of the resin until after application. The composition is useful, for example, as a corrosion inhibitor for metal surfaces, and is particularly useful for downhole metal equipment at oil and gas drilling sites.
