abstract Provided is a method for preparing melt-processable polyesters efficiently via the direct polymerization of a hydroxynaphthoic acid, an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and an aromatic diol. By the direct polymerization method, the hydroxy and acid moieties are reacted directly effectively and efficiently without the use of acetylated reactants in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metal selected from the group consisting of the Group IV and V metals.
