abstract Alkyl ammonium nitrate fused salts of the formula ##STR1## wherein R 1 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group and R 2 and R 3 are each independently hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, which fused salts have melting points of up to about 125° C., are disclosed for use as solvents or swelling agents for polymers and as polymerization media for the conduct of polymerization reactions.
