abstract Esterification products of monoalcohols and dicarboxylic acids, or of polyhydric alcohols and monocarboxylic acids respectively, containing 5 to 45% by weight of units of hydroxycarboxylic acids and having a ratio of carbon to oxygen atoms greater than 4.1 obtained from (a) aliphatic C1-C14 alcohols, (b) aliphatic C4-C18 carboxylic acids and optionally cycloaliphatic C6-C12 and aromatic C7-C12 carboxylic acids, and (c) lactones of aliphatic C5-C12 hydroxycarboxylic acids. They are suitable for the preparation of lubricants and lubricant compositions.
