The substituted norbornanones represented by general formula (I): ##STR1## (wherein R 1 is an alkenyl group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms or an alkylidene group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms and R 2 is a saturated hydrocarbon group having 2 to 7 carbon atoms with the dotted line between the two carbon atoms indicating a single bond when R 1 is an alkenyl group and a double bond when R 1 is an alkylidene group) are useful for perfume compositions. The substituted norbornanones represented by the general formula (I) may be prepared from the corresponding alkenyl or alkylidene norbornanones with diols in the presence of an acid catalyst. |
