titleOfInvention | Dental alloys |
abstract | The metal cores of the dental construction are alloys composed primarily of nickel, chromium and silicon and containing on a weight percent basis, about 65 to 75% nickel, about 15 to 23.5% chromium and about 3.5 to 6% silicon, to which a small amount of molybdenum and boron are added. The molybdenum is present within the range of 3 to 5% and boron within the range of 0.2 to 2% by weight of the total alloy composition. The alloys have excellent physical properties for dental applications having a fusion temperature with the range of about 2050 DEG to 2350 DEG F., a coefficient of expansion of from about 13.6x10-6 in/in/ DEG C. to about 13.8x10-6 in/in/ DEG C., good corrosion resistance when compared with similarly cast gold or other commercial nonprecious metal dental alloys and good oxidation resistance. They also have as casted, a tensile strength of at least 90,000 p.s.i., an elongation of about 0.5 to 5.0%, a Rockwell C hardness within the range of about 25 to 33, and good bonding to porcelain. |
