abstract |
In an oxo process wherein an olefin is caused to react with carbon monoxide and hydrogen, a rhodium catalyst is provided by carrying out the hydroformylation in the presence of a rhodium source and free mixed ligands comprising a tertiary organo phosphorus and tertiary organo arsenic in excess of the quantity required for coordination to the rhodium atom. For example, HRh(CO)(PPh3)3 with excess AsPh3/PPh3 may be used to give a high reaction rate and good selectivity to n-aldehyde. |
