abstract Novel dibenz[b,f]oxepin and dibenzo[b,f]thiepin derivatives of the formula <IMAGE> wherein X is an oxygen or sulfur atom, each of R1 and R2 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and R3 is a hydrogen atom or a 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl group; provided that when R1 is a hydrogen atom, the group <IMAGE> is a group other than a 1-carboxyethyl group; and when X is a sulfur atom, both R1 and R2 are methyl groups; and pharmaceutically acceptable salts of said compounds in which R3 is a hydrogen atom. Compositions of said compounds, processes for the preparation of said compounds, and a method of using said compounds are also provided. These novel compounds have excellent anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities.
