titleOfInvention | Somatostatin analogues |
abstract | Polypeptides of the formula: <IMAGE> +TR <IMAGE> the linear precursors and non-toxic acid addition salts thereof, wherein: R is hydrogen, lower alkanoyl, benzoyl, Ala-Gly-, Gly-Gly-Gly-, Ala-D-Ala- or p-Glu; X4 is Arg or Lys; X5 is a D- alpha -amino acid; X8 is L-Trp or D-Trp; and X14 is Cys or D-Cys are described. These somatostatin analogues are useful as inhibitors of growth hormone and insulin secretion, selectively inhibiting growth hormone, insulin and glucagon and they demonstrate prolonged growth hormone inhibition for periods exceeding two hours. The compounds of this invention are useful in the treatment of diabetes, acromegaly and other dysfunctions characterized by excessive secretion of growth hormone and/or insulin. |
